Honored for Heroics: Two Oak Creek officers receive Medal of Valor

WHITE HOUSE (WKOW) -- Two Oak Creek officers will be honored this morning with the highest national award given to law enforcement, the medal of valor.

It's presented to individuals exhibiting exceptional courage -- regardless of personal safety. The White House the deadly Sikh Temple of Wisconsin shooting more than 2 and half years ago, exemplifies that statement.

Old Waupaca County Murders back on the front burner

Richard Togstad remembers waving to his sister, Tanna Togstad, as she was driving her pickup truck to work on a rural Weyauwega road on a mid-March morning in 1992.

A few days later, 23-year-old Tanna Togstad was dead. She was stabbed, along with her boyfriend, Timothy Mumbrue, in her farmhouse on Butternut Ridge Road, roughly 11/2 miles from his home.

"She just bought a new truck," Richard Togstad recalled of the chance meeting on their way to work. "I remember it like it was yesterday."

Facebook post saves a life, then leads to rare assisting suicide charge

Some people post everything on Facebook, including their suicide plans. That move may have saved John F. McCormack's life, but also left him facing a rare, if not unprecedented, charge in Wisconsin of assisting a suicide.

McCormack's post last month, and a call to his sister, led police to the Clarion Hotel near Mitchell International Airport, according to medical examiner's records.

Inside room 380, they found McCormack, 53, on the floor, unresponsive and struggling to breathe. In the bed next to him lay Marlowe Marie Chapman, 29, already deceased.

Body found in the Mississippi River near Alma

The Buffalo County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a man who's body was found in the Mississippi River.

The 62-year-old man was found shortly after 10:30 a.m. Monday, in the Mississippi River in the Alma area. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the person is being withheld pending family notification.

NEW INFORMATION: Prosecutor clears deputy in November shooting in Chippewa Co.

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) -- A prosecutor says he will not file any criminal charges against a deputy who shot and killed another man in November.

REPORT: Jesse Matthew Charged in Hannah Graham slaying

(CNN) — The man suspected of killing college student Hannah Graham has now been officially charged with her slaying, CNN affiliates reported late Monday night.

Affiliates WTVR and WVIR, attributing the information to sources, said Jesse Matthew is charged with 1st degree murder in the University of Virginia student’s death. CNN has not been able to independently confirm these reports.

UPDATE: 2 Confirmed dead in Mazomanie shooting

UPDATE (WKOW) -- The Dane County Sheriff's Office now confirms two people are dead in the Mazomanie shooting.

Investigators say the suspect is in custody and has now given a statement to deputies.

Milwaukee police investigate double homicide near 53rd & Green Tree

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Milwaukee police are investigating a double homicide that happened near 53rd and Green Tree early Sunday, February 8th.

Investigators say around 1:30 a.m. an altercation involving up to four people occurred inside a bar. As the group moved towards the door, shots were fired. Police say two men, ages 22 and 36, were struck. Both of the victims were from Milwaukee.

Officials expect to release more information as their investigation unfolds.

IMCC inmates charged with attempted murder

CORALVILLE — A Minnesota man who gunned down two convenience store clerks in Northern Iowa in November 2010 is accused of trying to kill a fellow inmate at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center.

A second inmate also has been charged with attempted murder.

According to a Coralville police criminal complaint, on 7:18 a.m. Nov. 13, 21-year-old Michael R. Swanson and 33-year-old Michael J. Ivester approached an inmate that was seated in a chair. Police said Ivester grabbed the inmate’s arms and hands while Swanson used a bladed weapon to slash at the inmate’s neck.
