NEW INFORMATION: Prosecutor clears deputy in November shooting in Chippewa Co.

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) -- A prosecutor says he will not file any criminal charges against a deputy who shot and killed another man in November.

On Monday, Chippewa County District Attorney Steve Gibbs announced that Chippewa County Deputy William Gray did not commit a crime, and acted in self-defense in the November death of Sharrinder Garcha, 20. On November 14, the federal government asked Gray to interview Garcha about where a 17-year-old Florida runaway might be. After the interview, the Department of Homeland Security asked Gray to take Garcha into custody. While the two were sitting in Gray's patrol car, investigators say Garcha pulled out a knife and stabbed Gray multiple times in the hand, face and neck. During the struggle, Gray retrieved his gun and shot Garcha to death.

Gray went to the hospital with severe injuries. He has since recovered.WEAU
