Superior: Judge denies robbery evidence in Murder case

One of five suspects charged in the shooting death of a Superior man last fall is facing new charges stemming from an earlier robbery case — but a Douglas County judge ruled Tuesday the new charges can’t be admitted as evidence in the man’s upcoming party to felony murder trial.

Douglas County Circuit Court Judge Kelly Thimm denied a motion by the state to admit allegations of crimes prior to the Sept. 30 shooting death of Garth Velin as evidence against Kyham Lavon Dunn, 21, of Duluth. Dunn is scheduled to go to trial on the party to felony murder charge on May 18.

Trial set for man accused of killing father

HIXTON, Wis. (WEAU)-- A trial date has been set for the man accused of killing his father and hiding the body on his property.

Online court records show the trial will be held February 22nd in Monroe County, but the jury will be selected in Jackson County. The trial is expected to last 10 days.

A criminal complaint says 21 year-old Lars Helgeson, of rural Hixton, admitted to investigators that he shot his father in September of 2013.
The complaint says he also admitted to burning the body and burying it under an ATV track on his property.

Kelly Dwyers dad talks about remains found in Jefferson County

MILWAUKEE —For the first time, Tony Dwyer opens up about human remains recently uncovered in Jefferson County and the possible link to his missing daughter, Kelly Dwyer.

“It's the hardest thing the family has ever done, or will ever do,” Tony Dwyer said.

Just last week, Kelly Dwyer's dad announced plans to search the area between Milwaukee and Madison, in hopes of finding his daughter's body.

A day later, in an eerie coincidence, a passer-by spotted a skeleton off a dead-end road near Sullivan. Tony Dwyer said he's not jumping to conclusions.

Reward increased for information in shooting death of Laylah Petersen

MILWAUKEE —It's been six month,s and no arrests have been made in the shooting death of Laylah Petersen, 5.

It was announced late Wednesday afternoon that the reward for information in her death is up to $35,000.

Petersen was shot and killed in November when someone opened fire on her grandparents' home.

Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn said he hopes this new reward sparks someone out there to come forward with information leading to an arrest.

Laylah's mom desperately wants answers, too. She spoke directly to the killer.

25-year-old man shot and killed while in vehicle near 18th and Glendale

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Milwaukee police say a 25-year-old man was killed in a shooting Wednesday evening, May 6th.

Police say the homicide occurred in the 4600 block of N. 18th Street just before 7:30 p.m.

The 25-year-old man was the rear passenger in a vehicle with two other men — ages 24 and 26.

At one point, another vehicle pulled up behind them and shots were fired. The 25-year-old man was then driven to the 8600 block of W. Monrovia where the other occupants called 911.

CCI Sergeant stabbed at prison by inmate

On May 5, 2015 at 2:20pm The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from Columbia Correctional Institution (CCI) reporting a stabbing to a staff member.  Detectives responded to CCI and arrived within minutes of the call.  Divine Savior Hospital (DSH) EMS staff was also called and transported the victim to the hospital.  The victim received non life–threatening injuries and was treated and released.  

 

Columbia County woman tried for trying to kill wife of man with whom she had an affair

PORTAGE (WKOW) -- A former nurse is on trial for charges she tried to kill the wife of a man with whom prosecutors say she'd had an affair.

Stephanie McMillen is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and stalking. 

The victim, Kimberly Tennier, has testified McMillen showed up at her house in September 2012, disguised in a wig, bandana and sunglasses, and asked for help finding a lost cat.

Baraboo mother arrested-accused of concealing death of her child

BARABOO (WKOW) -- Police in Baraboo arrested a woman they say concealed the death of her child.

Officers arrested 33-year-old Brenda Bomstein of Baraboo on Tuesday. 

The arrest came after the Baraboo Police Department received a tip about actions from five years ago. The tip said a woman had a child who died during birth and the mother buried the child in the family's yard in the Blackhawk Manor subdivision without notification to any proper authority.

LaCrosse teen charged in killing a man while hunting

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) — A La Crosse teen is now charged with shooting and killing a man while hunting in Rusk County.

Ryan Korish, 17, is facing several charges, including second degree reckless homicide. 

Law enforcement say Patrick McFarlane, 60, was shot by Korish while Korish was hunting coyotes.

It happened March 7 near McFarlane's home on County Road B.

Korish admitted to law enforcement to shooting off the roadway in the direction of McFarlane.

Shots fired on Milwaukees south side

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Milwaukee police are investigating a shooting that happened near 8th and Mitchell on the city’s south side Tuesday afternoon, May 5th.

Officers were called to the scene shortly before 2 p.m. But officials are saying little more than that.
