Judge hears testimony on Anissa Weier charged in Slenderman stabbing​

WAUKESHA COUNTY (WITI) — An important hearing is taking place on Tuesday, May 26th for one of two girls accused in the so-called “Slenderman” stabbing. A Waukesha County Circuit Court judge is listening to testimony about whether Anissa Weier should be tried in adult or children’s court.

13-year-old Weier and 13-year-old Morgan Geyser are charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide after the knife attack on their then 12-year-old friend. In adult court, that could mean up to 65 years in prison.

Man shot and killed while sitting in car on Milwaukees North Side

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Milwaukee police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred near W. Cypress and Fond du Lac Ave. early Tuesday, May 26th.

Officials say a 23-year-old man was shot and killed while inside a vehicle shortly before 2 a.m.

Milwaukee police say they are seeking a known suspect — and are investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting.

Man admits to killing Black River Falls woman

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WKBT) - A 23-year-old Neillsville man has been charged with first degree intentional homicide in the death of a 30-year-old woman at the Black River Falls Pet Park in the Town of Brockway.

According to the criminal complaint, John B. Cook admitted to stabbing Jacinda Muir, of Black River Falls, on the morning of Sunday, May 17 after stealing a bag of meth from her and prodding her into the wooded area using his knife.

Wabeno man guilty of attempted murder

CRANDON (WAOW) – In less than two hours Friday, a jury found a Wabeno man guilty of attempting to murder a 40-year-old man who was attacked, tortured and left in some woods for wolves to devour, according to online Forest County court records.

Raymond Jones, 46, was convicted of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, kidnapping and aggravated battery following three days of testimony, court records said.

A seven-man, five-woman jury deliberated about 90 minutes before handing down the verdicts.

7 arrests made in 2 days in effort against Madison shootings

MADISON, Wis. - Madison police said they’ve made seven arrests in the last two days in a crackdown aimed at stemming gun violence.

The effort is in response to reports of shots fired almost daily over the past month, including multiple shots fired during a recent weekend.

Madison Police Chief Mike Koval said in a blog post that numerous law enforcement agencies are involved in the investigation and said the focus is on "homicide prevention."

U.S. Marshals on the hunt for shooting suspect Derrell Griffin

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — U.S. Marshals are looking for 25-year-old Derrell Griffin.

Griffin is charged with first degree reckless injury, use of a dangerous weapon.  A criminal complaint says he shot a man in the head, and the victim later identified Griffin as the suspect.

Prior to the incident, Griffin had no criminal record.

Griffin is 6’03” and weighs 220 pounds.  He may be in the area of 11th and Center or 11th and Locust.  Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call U.S. Marshals at 414-297-3707.

Dog park death ruled homicide

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. - A suspicious death in Black River Falls is now being investigated as a homicide and police have a suspect in custody.

A 911 caller reported an unconscious, unresponsive person at an area in Black River Falls known as the Dog Park Sunday morning.

The victim has now been identified as Jacinda J. Muir, 30, of Black River Falls.

Jackson Co. Sheriff Duane Waldera said John Cook, 23, of Black River Falls is suspected of committing the homicide and is in custody.

Committee to decide how to handle new prisoner projections

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Legislature’s finance committee is set to decide how to handle higher-than-anticipated growth in Wisconsin’s prison populations.

According to the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau, population growth estimates in Gov. Scott Walker’s budget plan are already outdated for both the state’s female and male prison populations.

The fiscal bureau says the state will have to house about 150 more female prisoners and about 800 more male prisoners over the two-year budget than Walker forecast.

Screech actor wants to use concealed carry expert at trial

PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. (AP) The actor who portrayed Screech on the 1990s TV show "Saved by the Bell" wants to use a concealed carry instructor as an expert at his trial next week.

Dustin Diamond is on trial for allegedly stabbing a man at a bar on Christmas. He was charged in January with one felony count of recklessly endangering safety and misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the trial is scheduled for next week.
