Dog park death ruled homicide

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. - A suspicious death in Black River Falls is now being investigated as a homicide and police have a suspect in custody.

A 911 caller reported an unconscious, unresponsive person at an area in Black River Falls known as the Dog Park Sunday morning.

The victim has now been identified as Jacinda J. Muir, 30, of Black River Falls.

Jackson Co. Sheriff Duane Waldera said John Cook, 23, of Black River Falls is suspected of committing the homicide and is in custody.

They are not releasing how the victim died until the autopsy is completed.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation, and the Wisconsin State Crime Lab are investigating a death.

According to a press release, a 911 caller reported an unconscious, unresponsive person at an area in Black River Falls known as the Dog Park Sunday morning.

Emergency responders and a Jackson County deputy arrived at the scene on Vaudreuil Road, and determined the victim was deceased.  Initial observation showed that the death was suspicious in nature.

At this time, no information is being released about how the victim died.  His or her name has not been released.  As part of the investigation, witnesses are being interviewed to help determine what happened.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says this was an isolated incident, and that there is no public safety concern.
