Grandfather killer still mentally ill

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - A man who killed his grandfather with a scissors in 1989 is still mentally ill and must remain hospitalized.

Portage County Circuit Judge John Finn ruled Thursday that 51-year old Steven Feck remains a danger to himself and others, again rejecting Feck's request to return into society.

Two mental health specialists testified during the hearing, and Feck read a statement seeking to be released from Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison, according to online court records.

A similar request last year was also denied.

Search continues at murder scene

GREEN BAY — The Green Bay Police Department Dive Team returned Wednesday to the area where 39-year-old Krystal Torres-Smith was found dead Monday morning.

Torres-Smith was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a car at the Lambeau Cottage parking lot at UW-Green Bay.

Divers could be seen in the water near the lot both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Green Bay Police Lt. Keith Gering said Wednesday afternoon that investigators are still following all possible leads, and no arrests have been made.

Boater pleads guilty in fatal 2013 crash on St. Croix River

ELLSWORTH, Wis. -- The man who was driving a boat that crashed on the St. Croix River in 2013, killing one passenger, has pleaded guilty of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

Patrick Puhalla, of Bayport, entered the guilty plea Tuesday in Pierce County (Wis.) Circuit Court. He also pleaded guilty of causing injury by intoxicated boat operation.

Five injured in two shootings in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE — Five people were taken to the hospital following a pair of shootings overnight Friday into Saturday, May 30th.

The first shooting occurred near 20th and Brown on Milwaukee’s north side shortly after 10:00 p.m. Three people were shot and injured after a large fight broke out in the street. Multiple shots were fired into the group.

UPDATE: Tomah homicide suspects plead not guilty

The two men suspected in the death of a Tomah man in March pleaded not guilty to all charges in Monroe County Court on Friday.

26-year-old Zachary Davis and 20-year-old Sebastian Martinez are charged in the death of 43-year-old Derek Magnuson. Magnuson's body was discovered at the Econo Lodge in Tomah on March 11.

The two men were teleconferenced into the courtroom for their appearance. 

Five arrested in Beloit shooting spree identified

BELOIT (WKOW) -- The Beloit Police Department say five people were arrested after a shooting spree in Beloit Thursday night.

The five people were arrested in Winnebago County, Illinois and have charges in Illinois and in Beloit.

Police say two of the arrested subjects are juveniles from Rockford.

Saved by Bell actor guilty of misdemeanor in bar stabbing

PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. (AP) -- TV actor Dustin Diamond was convicted Friday of two misdemeanors stemming from a barroom fight, but a Wisconsin jury cleared the former "Saved by the Bell" actor of the most serious felony charge.

   The jury's verdict came just hours after the 38-year-old actor testified that he never intended to stab anyone in the fight last Christmas Day. He had pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of recklessly endangering public safety, plus two misdemeanors -- carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct.

Three shot and wounded after shots fired near 20th and Brown in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee police say three people were shot and wounded after an incident near 20th and Brown on the city’s north side late Friday, May 29th.

Officials say shortly after 10 p.m., a large fight broke out in the street. Apparently someone pulled a gun and fired multiple shots into the group.

Two women, ages 18 and 25, as well as a 19-year-old man suffered non-life threatening injuries and were treated at a hospital. All the victims are from Milwaukee.

Mosinee man pleads not guilty in herion death

WAUSAU (WAOW) - A 23-year-old Mosinee man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to supplying the heroin that killed a man found dead in a Rothschild motel room last fall, according to online Marathon County court records.

Ryne Oleson is one of two people charged in the September death of Mark Blaskowski, 49.

He and Michael Taylor, 37, of Wausau, are each charged with being party to first-degree reckless homicide and being party to the manufacture and delivery of cocaine.

No date was immediately set for Oleson's trial.

As investigation into ambulance shooting continues medics return to work

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Authorities are looking for whoever fired a gunshot that struck an ambulance responding to a call in Milwaukee.

Police say it happened Saturday night on the northwest side. The two EMTs inside the ambulance heard what they thought was a rock striking the vehicle. But when they arrived, they discovered that a bullet had hit it just above the driver's window.

Teri Nitka, director of ambulance operations at Paratech Ambulance Services, says the EMTs were shaken up but OK.
