Baraboo mother arrested-accused of concealing death of her child

BARABOO (WKOW) -- Police in Baraboo arrested a woman they say concealed the death of her child.

Officers arrested 33-year-old Brenda Bomstein of Baraboo on Tuesday.

The arrest came after the Baraboo Police Department received a tip about actions from five years ago. The tip said a woman had a child who died during birth and the mother buried the child in the family's yard in the Blackhawk Manor subdivision without notification to any proper authority.

Police from Baraboo, working with the Division of Criminal Investigation and a cadaver dog from the Dane County Sheriff's Office, searched the property on Tuesday. The cadaver dog positively identified a portion of the property and after an excavation, remains of an infant were found.

Police say that during the search, Bomstein admitted to burying the child. She was arrested and taken to the Sauk County Jail.

The case is still under investigation by the Baraboo Police Department, State of Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation and the Sauk County Coroner's Office.
