RIVER FALLS -- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls has confirmed the death of one of its students, whose body was found in a local river after leaving a bar.
River Falls Chancellor Dean Van Galen identified the student as 20-year-old Robert Steven Sontag, of Shafer, Minnesota.
Police say the student was last seen about 2 a.m. Friday when he and a friend were walking home from a bar and they separated. Sontag failed to show up for class Friday and for work during the weekend.
ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) -- A Rockford man accused of killing two people in a span of about two days likely will be sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty in the second slaying.
Terence Doddy pleaded guilty Monday in the death of 37-year-old Todd Hansmeier, who was found dead June 29 inside Doddy's workplace. Prosecutors said Doddy admitted to investigators that he was responsible for the man's death and told them he took Hansmeier's vehicle, credit cards and ATM card without permission.
JEFFERSON COUNTY (WKOW) -- The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says the remains found in Sullivan May 1 are those of a female.
Captain Jerry Haferman states the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office is bringing specialists in to help with the identity and to determine how long the remains have been there. They hope to have more information by Thursday.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A Town of Union man is sentenced to prison in an officer-involved shooting.
On Monday, a judge sentenced Paul Lynch, 47, to 35 years in prison and 15 years of extended supervision. A jury convicted Lynch on several related charges in February. Prosecutors say Lynch intentionally fired an assault rifle at Deputy Dustin Walters in January 2014. Lynch's lawyer argued that the gun went off on accident.
BELOIT (WKOW) -- A Beloit man is arrested on Attempted Homicide and drug charges after a weekend stabbing.
A Rock County Sheriff's Office deputy was patrolling near the corner of Wisconsin at Harvey Sunday afternoon when someone reporting a stabbing in the 1500 block of Wisconsin Avenue. Beloit Police officers responded to the home and found 44-year-old Shawndell Summerville with stab wounds to his back and arm.
Summerville was transported to an area hospital. He has life-threatening injuries.
A 25-year-old man was shot in the head during an argument with an acquaintance while inside a car on I-894 and then dumped outside a house on Milwaukee's south side, according to a criminal complaint released Monday.
The victim, Randall R. Radtke, was found in the 800 block of W. Hayes Ave. shortly before 11 p.m. April 20 and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Milwaukee police.
NEENAH – Menasha police say a man and his 11-year-old daughter, along with another man walking in the area, were killed Sunday evening by a gunman who was distraught about a romantic relationship.
Police say the suspected shooter turned the gun on himself and later died, and another woman – the wife and mother of two of the victims – remains in critical condition at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah.
The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday on the Trestle Trail Bridge in Menasha. City of Menasha police released the new details at a press conference Monday morning.
OSHKOSH – The man who allegedly supplied heroin which killed Nicholas Aronson was ordered Monday to stand trial.
Patrick Brown waived a preliminary hearing, according to online court records.
Arraignment on the first-degree reckless homicide charge is set for Friday in Winnebago County court.
Police say Aaronson, 31, of Redgranite, died in February on W. 10th Ave. in Oshkosh. Autopsy results confirmed the cause of death as heroin toxicity.
GREEN BAY – A woman who allegedly stabbed her boyfriend was charged Monday with first-degree recklessly endangering safety.
Cayla Katch, 20, allegedly got into an argument Friday night with her boyfriend at a Howard apartment, according to the Brown County Sheriff’s Dept.
He was stabbed in the back. His injuries are not life-threatening, police said.
