MPD believes gas station shooting connected to 2 other

MADISON, Wis. - Madison police say they believe strongly that a deadly shooting Wednesday night at a gas station in the Town of Madison is connected to two other shootings.

The man who was shot at a gas station on Rimrock Road south of the Beltline Wednesday later died, officials said. Town of Madison Police Chief Scott Gregory confirmed the man died at the hospital. The victim's name has not been released.

Man suspected of false imprisonment found dead

GRAFTON, Wis. - Police said a man wanted for holding a woman against her will has fatally shot himself at a hotel in Grafton.

Saukville police said the suspect broke into the woman's home during an attempted burglary Wednesday and forced her at gunpoint to drive around with him. The woman was eventually released and called authorities.

News conference today in latest Madison homicide

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- A 2:00pm news conference with Madison's police chief is expected to shed more light on Tuesday night's homicide. The chief is also expected to discuss recent gun violence in the city. 

Madison Police Chief Mike Koval says a 38-year-old man was killed in a shooting at a BP gas station, making it the 5th homicide in the city so far this year.

Police got multiple reports of shots fired around 6:24 p.m. at the BP on Verona Road and the Beltline.

Body found in semi cab in Ashwaubenon

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. - Authorities in Ashwaubenon are investigating the discovery of a body in the cab of a semi at Wisconsin Kenworth.

Public safety officers were called shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday after a company employee made the discovery. Officials said it was apparent the body had been there for a long period of time. The body found was not the driver or the owner of the semi.

The investigation is ongoing.

Man assaults wife with hammer in cottage Grove

COTTAGE GROVE, Wis. - A man threatened to kill himself after allegedly assaulting his wife with a hammer in the Village of Cottage Grove Monday morning, according to a release.

Police were called to the 200 block of Chateau Drive around 6:45 a.m. Monday.

The woman, who had head injuries, told police her husband had assaulted her with a hammer, and he was still inside the residence when police arrived, according to the release.

Man sought for shooting at officers captured in Madison

GARY, Ind. - Gary police say a man wanted for shooting at officers has been captured in Madison, Wisconsin.

Police say federal marshals apprehended 28-year-old Kevin Brown Jr., who's now awaiting extradition to Indiana. He's charged with two counts each of attempted murder, attempted battery with a deadly weapon, and resisting law enforcement.

Brown had been sought since April 26, when police say he shot at two members of the Multi-Agency Gang Force who were making an arrest. Gary police initially caught Brown but he escaped from a police car wearing handcuffs.

Man accused of killing mother found not fit for trial

MILWAUKEE —A Milwaukee County man accused of killing his 68-year-old mother has been found not competent to proceed with trial.

Forty-year-old Robert Rozewicz of Hales Corners is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Julie Rozewicz, who had been missing before her body was found in March at a Musekgo landfill.

A judge ordered Rozewicz into the Wisconsin Department of Health Services' care for treatment, and he will undergo examination periodically to determine if he is competent.

Conviction upheld in Oconto County double murder case

MADISON (WLUK) - A state appeals court Tuesday upheld Daniel Schmidt's conviction for the murder of his lover and her brother.

Schmidt was sentenced to two life terms in prison without the possibility of parole for the May 19, 2009, murders of Kimberly Rose and Leonard Marsh at a Gillett home.

Schmidt appealed on several grounds including that there wasn't enough evidence to convict him. But the court disagreed.

Off-Duty officer shoots and wounds Milwaukee robbery suspect

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee police say an off-duty lieutenant has shot and wounded a robbery suspect.

Police say the lieutenant was told by a store employee that a Sally Beauty Supply was being robbed around 11:30 a.m. Sunday. The lieutenant confronted the suspect and fired several shots, striking the suspect. The suspect, a 25-year-old Milwaukee man, drove off but was later located.

Authorities say the suspect is being treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. He has been arrested.

DA: Show respect for Law Enforcement

Officers’ effective handling of a manhunt last week shows law enforcement is getting a bad rap, Sauk County District Attorney Kevin Calkins said Monday.

Speaking at a Respect for Law Day ceremony at the Sauk County Courthouse, Calkins decried the national critique of law enforcement that followed high-profile, officer-involved shootings.

“Law enforcement has become the subject of hateful rhetoric,” he said. “Trust has unfortunately been replaced by mistrust.”
