Officer shoots Walgreens robbery suspect

MILWAUKEE (WISN)—Armed, masked men stormed a Walgreens on Wednesday morning, and police were already hot on their trail.

Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn said District 7 officers assigned to an anti-robbery detail responded to the Walgreens at 5707 W. Hampton Ave. and observed two men enter the store, masked and hooded, while a third man waited outside in an idling car.

Flynn said an officer took the man outside the building into custody.

"A plain-clothed Milwaukee police officer, aged 57 with 22 years on the job, fired one round, striking the suspect," Flynn said.

Man shot and killed in home in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (WISN) —It could be a tragic misunderstanding that led to Milwaukee's homicide.

Micheal Powell, 18, was shot to death inside a stranger's home Tuesday afternoon. His family is convinced his mental illness played a role.   

Neighbors said they heard five shots inside a duplex about 1:45 p.m. near 28th and Melvina streets. Police found a man shot to death.

“This is like, my little brother, the closest thing to me,” the victim’s brother, Antione Powell, said.

MILWAUKEE —A four-year-old girl was shot in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (WISN) —A four-year-old girl was shot in Milwaukee late Tuesday night, according to police.

It happened at 10:51 p.m. near 67th Street and Fiebrantz Avenue.

Police said someone fired 13 rounds into a house. One of those rounds hit the girl who was playing on a couch in the living room.

Micky Govani said his granddaughter, Leillani, was struck in the leg.

"She's a trooper," he said. "She's a pretty young, strong lady."

17-year-old killed in triple shooting on Milwaukee's northwest side

MILWAUKEE -- A teenage girl was killed in a triple shooting on Milwaukee's northwest side Monday night, police say.

It happened just before 9:00 p.m. Monday night near N. Hopkins St. and W. Hampton Ave.

Police say a 17-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 26-year-old man and 25-year-old man were transferred to hospitals for treatment.

Police suspect driver was high in crash that killed biker

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Police in Milwaukee say a 72-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a driver who is suspected of being high on marijuana turned into his path.

The crash happened at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday on the city's northwest side.

Milwaukee police say the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver is a 24-year-old man. Police say he failed sobriety tests and was arrested. Police also say he was driving without a valid license.

Police plan to refer the driver to prosecutors for charges.

Clintonville teen charged in crash that killed three

TOWN OF BELLE PLAINE, Wis.  – A teenage driver involved in a crash that killed three young passengers last fall in Shawano County is facing criminal charges.

Prosecutors say 18-year-old Ryan Swadner, of Clintonville, was under the influence of a controlled substance when he lost control of his vehicle in Belle Plaine and collided with an SUV in October 2014. Fifteen-year-old Paige Brunette, 17-year-old Cody Borsche and 18-year-old Tyler Welch died in the crash.

Milwaukee- Driver, teen shot to death after van hits and kills toddler

Wisconsin police continued the search Monday for anyone involved in the fatal shooting of a teenager and a van driver who struck and killed a 2-year-old toddler in Milwaukee a day earlier.

Authorities say the toddler ran into the street and was struck about 5 p.m. Sunday on Milwaukee's northwest side.

The 41-year-old van driver was shot and killed at the scene after stopping his vehicle, according to police. A 15-year-old boy who was also at the scene was shot and died later at a hospital. It's not clear why the teen was shot.

Detectives seek information about Fitchburg man found in Lake Mendota

MADISON, Wis. - A body found Saturday in Lake Mendota off Governor's Island has been identified as Jacob D. Payne, 23, of Fitchburg.

The Dane County Sheriff's Office said Payne's death is being investigated as a homicide.

The Dane County medical examiner said Monday Payne died as a result of "homicidal edged weapon violence."

The sheriff's office said Payne's body was found after 4 p.m. Saturday by a canoeist. The body was in about 5 to 6 feet of water about 30 yards from shore.

22 year-old man fatally shot on far northwest side of Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee police are investigating after a 22-year-old man was shot and killed on the city's far northwest side.

Capt. Timothy Heier of the Milwaukee Police Department says officers found the man suffering from a gunshot wound around 7:40 p.m. Sunday. He says the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further information was immediately available.

An investigation is ongoing.
