News conference today in latest Madison homicide
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- A 2:00pm news conference with Madison's police chief is expected to shed more light on Tuesday night's homicide. The chief is also expected to discuss recent gun violence in the city.
Madison Police Chief Mike Koval says a 38-year-old man was killed in a shooting at a BP gas station, making it the 5th homicide in the city so far this year.
Police got multiple reports of shots fired around 6:24 p.m. at the BP on Verona Road and the Beltline.
Police say the victim was targeted and the shooting was not random. Witnesses told police the actions seemed deliberate. Chief Koval believes the people involved knew each other.
No suspects have been arrested, but Chief Koval says they are pursuing several "good leads."
The victim is said to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Police believe he was shot while inside a car by someone standing outside of the vehicle. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses at the scene told NBC15 that they heard arguing and "pops" as the shooting unfolded.
