MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police have released the name and photo of a suspect wanted in connection with a homicide/arson that occurred on October 20th near 36th and Silver Spring Drive. A two-year-old child died following this arson fire, and a 10-year-old child was critically injured. Four other children and their grandmother escaped from the home.
The suspect in this case is 26-year-old Michael Morgan. FOX6 News has learned Morgan is an uncle of the two-year-old girl who died following this fire, and he is married to the mother of the 10-year-old boy critically hurt.
The arson fire happened at a home near 36th and Silver Spring Drive early on October 20th -- around 2:00 a.m.
Six children had to be rescued from the burning home -- four of them by their grandmother.
Two-year-old Tae'najah Morgan died as a result of this fire on October 21st at Children's Hospital. Milwaukee police ruled her death a homicide.
"She never hurt nobody, so why do we have to suffer like this," the children's grandmother, Robbin Morgan said.
"For somebody to do that, it's hard. It's sad," Lakeashah Rice, Tae'najah Morgan's mother said.
A second child, 10-year-old Kevin Little was seriously injured.
The two-year-old and 10-year-old were initially taken to Children's Hospital, transferred to St. Luke's Hyberbaric Unit, and then transferred back to Children's Hospital.
The 52-year-old grandmother and the four children she rescued sustained minor to no injuries as a result of the fire.
When crews arrived at the scene of the fire early on Tuesday, less than five minutes after getting the call (according to MFD), they encountered heavy fire on the first floor. Some went up the interior stairwell, while others deployed the ladder.
Fire officials say there was evidence of "multiple origins" for this fire on the home's first floor.
Family members tell FOX6 News the suspect in this case, Michael Morgan, is estranged from Kevin Little's mother. Records show she recently filed for divorce, and she says that may have been what set Morgan off.
According to court records, Morgan has pending cases which include the following charges: battery, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct and misdemeanor bail jumping.
Family members of the children involved in this fire want to see homicide and arson added to the list.
" I haven't not had, not one decent night of sleep...because I always get up and say 'this is not happening,'" Robbin Morgan said.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses for Tae'najah Morgan.
Anyone with information as to Michael Morgan's whereabouts is asked to call police at 414-935-7360.
