Driver accused of killing pedestrian not competent to stand trial

MADISON (WKOW) -- Online court records show the man accused of striking and killing a woman with his car last month has been found not competent to stand trial.

The records shows prosecutors did not challenge a doctor's findings that Adam Sutter is not competent.

Sutter, 25, was ordered to be committed and treated, and prosecutors requested a status update in 90 days.

Sutter, of Sauk City, is charged with first degree reckless homicide in the death of Sara Wolf, 36, of Madison.

Police say Sutter was speeding and ran a red light as he turned from Stoughton Road onto East Washington Avenue the evening of June 18.
Wolf was crossing the street properly in a crosswalk, and was struck and killed by Sutter's car.

A criminal complaint in the case says Sutter told officers he "lost focus" on an aimless drive and did not slow down at the intersection, and even suggested he purposely drove into Wolf.

Court records show Sutter was charged with trying to drive away from a traffic officer in 2010, but was found not competent to stand trial sue to mental illness.
