The two men suspected in the death of a Tomah man in March pleaded not guilty to all charges in Monroe County Court on Friday.
26-year-old Zachary Davis and 20-year-old Sebastian Martinez are charged in the death of 43-year-old Derek Magnuson. Magnuson's body was discovered at the Econo Lodge in Tomah on March 11.
The two men were teleconferenced into the courtroom for their appearance.
Zachary Davis is facing three felony charges: First Degree Intentional Homicide, Armed Robbery and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without the Owners Consent. He is being held on $1,000,000 cash bond.
Sebastian Martinez is jailed on a $750,000 cash bond. He's also facing three felonies including Felony Murder, Harboring or Aiding a Felon and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without the Owners Consent.
Monroe County District Attorney Kevin Croninger said he considered making changes to the filed charges, but ultimately decided to keep the present charges.
I've taken some time to consider if I wanted some other charges and I've decided to go forward with the charges we have that were in the original complaint,” he said. “I just felt like based on the evidence we have and the evidence we've presented, that the charges we have are the best charges at this point in time.”
Martinez is scheduled for another court hearing at the end of June. Davis isn't scheduled for a court appearance until September.
