The Holmen man charged with first degree intentional homicide in the death of his girlfriend will face a judge in Jones County, Iowa on Monday.
Bryce Anderson is charged with killing 28 year old Kristen Johnson at their home in Holmen on Sunday morning.
According to the criminal complaint, Anderson accused Johnson of having an affair.
One neighbor said she ended her relationship with Anderson last week and was working on bettering her life for her and her children.
"I thought it was just a drug bust or something," said another neighbor. "But when I saw the guys with the riot shields and the assault rifles, that was pretty crazy."
Jessica Trudell, a friend of Johnson's said she was always the kind of friend who would step up to help others in need.
"She was the type of person you could reach out to, day or night, and you knew she would be there for you," Trudell said. "She had a lot of challenges in her own life, but she would line up to help anyone out. Her love and care for others was so obvious in her daily actions"
According to the criminal complaint, Johnson was strangled and beaten over the head with a hammer, before her throat was cut.
Law enforcement caught up with Anderson in Iowa, arresting him east of Cedar Rapids on Tuesday.
The Jones County jail said Anderson made his initial appearance in court this week, but will have to wait until Monday to fight or waive his extradition to La Crosse County.
