MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The hunt continues for the person who shot and wounded a suburban Milwaukee police officer, but authorities say they know who they are looking for.

Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn did not release the suspect's name, but warned the person is armed and dangerous.

Three Wauwatosa police officers were investigating a burglary in that city Friday morning when they confronted a suspect in a car in a Milwaukee apartment parking lot.

The suspect opened fire on the officers and the officers fired back. A 52-year-old plain-clothed detective, who has 25 years of service, was hit once. The suspect ran away. Flynn said there's no indication that the suspect was hurt.

Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber says the detective was in serious but stable condition after undergoing surgery.
