three charged in deaths of three people in Upper Peninsula

MANISTIQUE, Mich. (AP) - Authorities in the Upper Peninsula have charged three people with murder and other crimes in the deaths of three people whose bodies were found in a burned-out car in Schoolcraft County.

Marietta Carlson, Ken Brunke and Garry Cordell appeared in court Friday. They're accused in the deaths of Jody Hutchinson and sisters Carrie Nelson and Heather Aldrich.

The bodies were found April 17 in a car on a gravel road in Schoolcraft County's Doyle Township, 70 miles southeast of Marquette. A court filing says state police interviewed a man who said he helped Brunke by throwing purses and other personal items from the victims into a river.

State police say the motive appears to be related to drugs.
