Prison time ordered in Eau Claire strangulation case

Eau Claire (WQOW) — The Eau Claire man accused of strangling his girlfriend and throwing her 7 year old son into a wall, will serve time in prison.

Torrie Smith’s girlfriend told police he became jealous and attacked her. Her son tried to stop him, but said Smith threw him against a wall, about five feet in the air. The boy suffered minor injuries.

In October, a jury found Smith guilty of child abuse, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct. He was found not guilty of intimidating a victim.

Last week, Judge Jon Theisen sentenced Smith to nearly 10 years in jail and more than five years of extended supervision. He’s also ordered not to have any contact with the family.
