APPLETON, Wis. (AP) -- A 20-year-old man has been convicted in a fatal shooting outside a tavern in Outagamie County.
A jury found Alejandro Silva, of Oneida, guilty Thursday night of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of 24-year-old Kamewan Salzman. He was shot in the chest outside Benderz Bar in the Town of Oneida Aug. 10, 2013.
The jury rejected defense claims that Silva had been afraid for his life after having been attacked and kicked in the head. The defense claimed the crowd was advancing toward Silva when he aimed at the ground and pulled the trigger.
The conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
