Man charged in interstate shooting faces new homicide count

MADISON, Wis. - Prosecutors have charged a man accused of killing an Illinois woman in a drive-by with shooting his neighbor to death hours earlier in the day.

Milwaukee prosecutors filed one count of first-degree reckless homicide against Zachary Hays of West Allis on Monday in the death of Gabriel Claudio-Sanchez. According to a criminal complaint, Hays shot and killed Claudio-Sanchez on May after Claudio-Sanchez tried to stop him from entering his apartment.

Investigators say later that afternoon Hays opened fire on an Illinois family as they were traveling home from Wisconsin Dells on Interstate 90/94, killing 44-year-old Tracy Czaczkowski.

He faces one count of first-degree intentional homicide and three counts of reckless endangerment in Sauk County. Online court records don't list an attorney for him.
