MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The state Parole Commission has denied a release request from one of the five men who remain incarcerated for killing a paper mill co-worker in 1992.
Commissioners told Keith Kutska that he needs more time behind bars to address the seriousness of his crime. The commission said a release right now would pose an unreasonable risk to the community.
Kutska was one of six men convicted of killing Tom Monfils, whose body was found in a paper vat at the former James River paper mill in Green Bay. The conviction of one of the six, Michael Piaskowski, was overturned by a federal court and he was released
WLUK-TV says the sentencing judge, who is now retired, backed Kutska's parole in a letter to commissioners.
Kutska can next apply for parole in three years.
