TOWN OF SULLIVAN, Wis. —Human remains were found in the Town of Sullivan Friday evening.
Jefferson County officials said they received a call from a concerned citizen on Inlynd Road just before 5:15 p.m. An investigation confirmed the remains were human.
Authorities will schedule an autopsy.
Investigators are checking if the remains are connected to the disappearance of Kelly Dwyer, a 27-year-old woman who disappeared in Milwaukee about a year and a half ago.
Pablo Velazquez is the private investigator helping Dwyer’s family find her.
“It’s a possibility it might be Kelly,” Velazquez said. “We don’t know. We’re going to continue our search efforts that began yesterday.”
Dwyer disappeared in October 2013. She was last seen going into her boyfriend’s eastside apartment. Police said the boyfriend, Chris Zocco, is a person of interest in Dwyer’s disappearance.
He is in jail currently on unrelated charges.
“We’re looking in the next week, week-and-a-half is when we’re actually going to conduct a grid-by-grid search,” Velazquez said.
Velazquez said their focus will include counties between Milwaukee and Madison. He said he is in the process of gathering search teams and police dogs who will cover land and water.
Kelly’s father, Tony Dwyer, said he hopes the new search and any tips from the public bring closure to the situation.
“We’re waiting for that kind of break while simultaneously going out and creating our own,” he said.
Jefferson County detectives, the medical examiner’s office, the district attorney’s office and the Wisconsin Department of Justice are investigating.
