Death Investigation at Columbia Correctional Institution
On Thursday, February 12, 2015, at 2:52pm, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a medical emergency involving an inmate at Columbia Correctional Institution. CCI is located in the City of Portage. The Divine Savior Hospital EMS responded to the state prison. The victim inmate was pronounced deceased at CCI by on-scene medical professionals.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and the Columbia County Medical Examiner’s Office are conducting the investigation into the death of the 40 year old male inmate. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death of the inmate. The name of the deceased inmate will not be released until confirmation that his family has been notified.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the involvement of a second inmate in the incident. Due to the early stages of the investigation and the cause of death yet to be determined, there will be no additional statements or press releases published until further notice.
The Wisconsin Department of Corrections and the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office are assisting in the investigation.
