Authorities recover body from Fox River

APPLETON – An investigation is underway in Appleton after a man’s body was pulled from the Fox River.

Authorities say the body is that of an adult male. However, investigators are still trying to work out a time-line of how long the body was in the river.

The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department says the body was found in the water off of West River Road and Memorial Drive in Appleton.

Officers say the call came in to 911 at about four o-clock Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators would not say if foul play is involved, but they said they’re not ruling that option out either.

They told us they’re exploring every angle at this point in the investigation.

The Outagamie County Sheriff’, Appleton Police and Appleton Fire Departments took to the Fox River Wednesday after getting a call from a kayaker.

“He had indicated that he believed he had found a body in the water. We got to the scene and we did locate the body,” explained Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Ryan Carpenter.

According Carpenter, the body is that of an adult man. Although, it’s unclear the exact age at this point.

“It appears the body’s been there for quite awhile, in the water for quite awhile,” said Carpenter.

“Quite awhile? Months, weeks?” asked FOX 11 reporter Alex Ronallo

“Several months,” responded Carpenter.

So how did this body end up in the River? And why?

Carpenter told us it’s too soon to tell whether foul play was involved.

“We’re not ruling anything out at this point,” he said.

The sheriff’s department has sent the body to Fond du Lac for an autopsy. The autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
