50-year-old Jose Ferreira charged in 1982 killing of teenage Milwaukee girl

MILWAUKEE  — Authorities have charged a man in the Milwaukee cold case of a seventh-grade girl found dead more than 30 years ago.

Prosecutors say Jose Ferreira, now 50, is responsible for the death of 13-year-old Carrie Ann Jopek, who went missing in 1982.

The case resurfaced last week when Ferreira called into a television station and discussed the case.

He was charged with second-degree murder and appeared in court Saturday with attorney Melissa Nepomiachi. The attorney didn’t return a phone message from The Associated Press seeking comment Sunday.

The girl disappeared after being suspended for roaming the halls at school. Her body was discovered buried under a neighbor’s porch 17 months later.
