MILWAUKEE —Charges have been filed against two brothers accused of shooting a man who authorities say entered their house on April 14.
Court documents charge Aaron Jones, 26, and Aric Jones, 24, with second-degree intentional homicide in the death of Michael Conte Powell-Gray.
According to the criminal complaint, Aaron Jones said Powell-Gray rang his doorbell and asked for "Mike." Jones turned him away, saying a Mike did not live there.
About five minutes later, Jones said Powell-Gray came up to the passenger side of his vehicle and asked, "Am I going with you?" Jones said Powell-Gray had his hand in his pocket, and thought he might have a weapon. Jones answered, "No."
A short time later, Jones said he saw Powell-Gray enter his home and lock the doors.
Jones told officers that he called his brother Aric, who also lives at the home. Aric Jones arrived with a .40 caliber handgun and the two entered their home.
Aaron Jones told officers that his brother, Aric, opened the bathroom door and found Powell-Gray in the bathtub.
Officers said Aric Jones fired several shots at Powell-Gray, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said that Powell-Gray might have suffered from mental health issues.
Aric Jones said his brother told him to "bring the heat," which is why he brought the gun, according to court documents. Police said Aric Jones did not have a concealed carry permit, and did not have the gun licensed in his name.
Documents say the two men did not call police about the home invasion, but called only after the shooting.
Each man could face up to 60 years in prison if convicted.
