Person in custody in 76-year-olds death

MADISON, Wis. - Police said a person of interest is in custody in connection with an elderly man's death last week.

Madison police did not identify the person of interest Thursday, but said the person is in custody on a probation hold.

The 76-year-old man was found in his west side apartment Saturday, and his death is being investigated as a homicide, Madison police said.

Officers were called to an apartment in the 5000 block of Sheboygan Avenue at 11:01 a.m. Saturday after neighbors noticed piled-up newspapers outside the man’s apartment.

The man was found dead inside the apartment.

Police believe the man was specifically targeted and there is no threat to the general public. The person of interest and the victim were acquainted with one another, according to an update from police Thursday.

Officials asked anyone who saw anything suspicious in the 5000 block of Sheboygan Avenue last week to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
