Eau Claire (WQOW) - Eau Claire Police Chief, Jerry Staniszewski, spoke about a domestic disturbance and a chase that ended in a shooting in Eau Claire on Wednesday.

Staniszewski said, "I know it's unsettling when a situation like this happens in Eau Claire, but rest assured, everybody is safe. The incident has been resolved."

The Eau Claire Police Department said an officer involved shooting of an armed subject took place near the VFW on Starr Avenue in Eau Claire. According to authorities, the incident started at a home in Eau Claire as a domestic dispute. Officers responded and the suspect got in a vehicle and left the scene. A pursuit down a steep hill toward the river took place. The suspect had a weapon. The officer fired and shot him. Authorities said the suspect was suicidal and had a felony arrest warrant.

Public Information Officer, Kyle Roder, said, "It's very steep, so it was very dangerous for our officers, very dangerous for fire and rescue and for the suspect who they were trying to tend to injuries. Our officers did tend to his injuries after the shooting. We carry a number of things so we can tend to our injuries or other injuries and that was done by our officers until fire rescue could arrive."

The suspect is still alive. The officer who fired the shots was not hurt. An outside agency will be investigating the incident per Wisconsin law regarding an officer involved shooting.
