Convicted murderer charged with beating 74-year-old store clerk in Racine robbery

RACINE — A Racine man with a prior conviction for murder has been charged in connection to a robbery last summer in which a 74-year-old store clerk was assaulted.

Everett D. Goodlow, 45, of the 700 block of Monticello Drive, was in custody as of Friday at the Racine County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. He is assigned a Wednesday morning preliminary hearing in Racine County Circuit Court regarding charges of robbery and aggravated battery of an elderly person.

According to a criminal complaint, Goodlow is accused of robbing Wisconsin Discount, 2724 16th St., on the afternoon of July 12. During the robbery, which according to video surveillance reviewed by police lasted about 5 minutes, the store clerk was grabbed by the neck and struck.

According to the complaint, the clerk later identified Goodlow as the alleged perpetrator through a photograph lineup.

Goodlow, according to court records, was convicted of felony murder in 1992 and was incarcerated for 19 years.

After the robbery, Racine police issued a plea for information about Goodlow’s whereabouts. He was finally brought into custody on Friday. No information was released about the details of his arrest.

If convicted in the Wisconsin Discount robbery case, Goodlow could face up to 13 years behind bars and fines of up to $60,000.
