Man is dead following apartment explosion

RICE LAKE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A man is dead after following through with a threat to blow up his apartment in Rice Lake.

The Rice Lake Police Department says Joseph Zunker, 44, called police around 11p.m., Sunday, before setting off the explosion.

Police say they had previous contact with Zunker who was a convicted sex offender.

The department said it responded quickly to Zunker’s threat to blow up his apartment building on South Main Street. 

38 year old man charged in killing father of 3 in Kenosha

KENOSHA — Kenosha police say they have the guy who shot and killed a father of three.

It happened on August 21st at 24th Avenue and 67th Street in Kenosha

Police said 39-year-old Bernard Reavers, a father of three young children, died on August 27th as a result of injuries suffered in the shooting.

Neighbors said Reavers may have walked in on a burglary in progress. He was apparently trying to borrow a vacuum from his neighbor.

2 shot is separate Milwaukee shooting incidents

MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee police are investigating two separate shooting incidents that occurred late Monday night, January 16th and early Tuesday morning, January 17th.

The first shooting occurred near 35th and Rohr around 11:00 p.m.

Police say the 23-year-old man was shot while riding in a vehicle with a  24-year-old man. After the shooting, the 24-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree — he was slightly injured.

The 23-year-old man suffered a non-life threatening gunshot injury.  Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

FBI most wanted taken into custody

Investigators said on July 17th, a fight between a group of seven or eight men ended when Strickland started shooting near 26th and Hopkins on Milwaukee's north side.

Maurice Brown Jr. and Michael Reed died from their injuries.

Witnesses told investigators they saw Strickland pull the trigger.

According to a criminal complaint, investigators interviewed several of these eyewitnesses.

Investigators suspect driver accused in fatal crash was under influence of marijuana

MILWAUKEE — A 22-year-old Milwaukee man has been criminally charged in connection with a fatal crash that happened near 13th and Capitol Drive on January 5th — accused of causing the death of James Bentley.

The crash involved two vehicles — a blue Chevy Astro van and a red BMW X3.

Bentley was the driver of the van. He was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of multiple blunt force injuries.

A criminal complaint says Larreon Hopkins was the driver of the BMW. The complaint says first responders noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from Hopkins at the scene.

Exotic dancer lured homicide victim to Milwaukee apartment

MILWAUKEE, WI -- A Milwaukee man is dead, and a woman working as an exotic dancer faces homicide charges after police say the woman lured the man to her apartment for sex, only to have an armed robbery attempt devolve into murder.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County, police officers went to investigate a car crash at 3530 W. Thurston Ave., Milwaukee in early December. The driver of the crashed car, later identified as Scott Ross, was removed from the car and found to have a gunshot wound to the upper back. 

Investigation Discovery show examining painful aftermath of Marilyn McIntyre murder case

When a “48 Hours” program about the murder of Marilyn McIntyre aired in 2011, it suggested that life could finally go on for her family and friends. An Investigation Discovery program set to air on Jan. 12 shows that life has not gone on as many had hoped. The aftermath is still raw, and people seem stuck in the past — a past scarred by Marilyn’s murder, and haunted by things that might have been but never were.

Criminal complaint in Portage homicide reports victim tried to protect acquaintance

PORTAGE (WKOW) -- A criminal complaint states the victim of a Portage homicide that followed a botched drug deal, was trying to protect an acquaintance when he was fatally shot.

The complaint charges 24-year old Mario Brown, Jr. of McFarland with party to a crime of first degree intentional homicide, in the Dec. 18 death of 22-year old Jason Laack of Rio.

Brown's bail Tuesday was set at $1 million.
